                                           Nutrition Services

The City of Boston administers the Elderly Nutrition Program for its seniors. All seniors over 60 and their spouse are eligible to eat at any of the ~40 congregate lunch sites throughout the city. The suggested donation for the meal is $1.75, to help defray the production and delivery cost of the meal.

The Elderly Commission oversees different area service providers to ensure they provide a nutritional meal to those in the greatest economic and social need. These meals are served in strategically located centers, such as community centers, senior drop-in centers, churches, etc. In addition to nutrition, the program aims at reducing the isolation of older Americans by providing these meals in a congregate setting whenever possible.

                                                        Meals On Wheels
The City of Boston also oversees home delivered meals to its seniors. These meals are served to elders who are unable to leave their homes due to illness, disability or frailty. Area service providers will have Meals on Wheels Coordinators visit seniors at their homes to assess their needs. Delivery of meals will begin shortly after the home assessment. The meal providers can serve Latino, Haitian, Russian, Vietnamese, Chinese, and traditional meals to homebound seniors, as well as weekend and supper meals.
